## Description

The Learning From Earthquakes (LFE) program, established by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) in 1973, is dedicated to enhancing global understanding of earthquake-induced disasters and their impacts on various environments. With a mission to accelerate learning from such events, the LFE program conducts comprehensive earthquake reconnaissance, establishing virtual clearinghouse websites that archive valuable information, including reports, photos, and data from over 300 earthquakes.

LFE also facilitates the Virtual Earthquake Response Team (VERT), engaging graduate students and early professionals in the assessment of earthquake impacts through social media and news analysis. Reconnaissance teams, composed of experts across multiple disciplines, are deployed to investigate and document the effects of earthquakes, focusing on community resilience and follow-up research. Additionally, LFE coordinates with various international organizations to promote collaboration in earthquake reconnaissance efforts. This program has significantly contributed to advancements in engineering, geosciences, and social sciences, supporting over 80 reconnaissance teams and helping communities worldwide improve their earthquake preparedness and response strategies.
