## Description

The "Biographische Lexikon zur Geschichte Südosteuropas" is a comprehensive biographical reference work dedicated to the significant individuals of Southeast Europe from the Middle Ages to 1945. Developed with support from the DFG between 1974 and 1981, this encyclopedic collection spans four volumes and includes over 1,500 entries. Additionally, an attached index in Volume IV offers access to around 10,000 further names, covering influential figures from the historic empires of Byzantium, the Ottoman Empire, and the Habsburg Monarchy.

Now digitized through the University of Innsbruck, the project allows users to interactively explore this rich dataset. The online platform features advanced search capabilities, enabling queries based not only on names but also by locations, professions, and standardized data. The lexicon is available for purchase in printed format through De Gruyter/Oldenbourg, and it continues to serve as a vital resource for researchers and enthusiasts interested in the biographical history of Southeast Europe.
