## Description

Leiden Shorts is an international short film festival based in Leiden, presenting cinema that engages with global issues and the realities shaping everyday life. Its annual programme brings together national and international filmmakers and audiences for five days of screenings, discussion, and professional exchange. The festival receives more than 1,400 submissions from over 70 countries and presents more than 120 short films across a range of genres. Its core programme includes competitions for national, international, and debut films, alongside thematic and focus programmes that invite audiences to explore diverse perspectives. Beyond screenings, Leiden Shorts offers lectures, panels, filmmaker Q&As, workshops, and industry and networking events, creating opportunities for learning and connection. In 2026, the festival hosted the European Short Pitch Coproduction Forum for the second time. Leiden Shorts also provides a free online programme and shares festival highlights through its digital channels. By nurturing emerging talent and encouraging thoughtful engagement with cinema, the festival creates a space for filmmakers and audiences to connect around stories that question and reframe the world.
