## Description

The Lever is a nonpartisan, reader-supported investigative news outlet that aims to hold accountable the people and corporations manipulating the levers of power. Founded in 2020 by David Sirota, an award-winning journalist and former presidential campaign speechwriter for Bernie Sanders, The Lever's reporting, podcasts, videos, and live events focus on politics, business, and corruption. They strive to expose how money shapes and distorts public policy, providing inconvenient truths without regard for offending powerbrokers or political parties. With a small but highly impactful team, The Lever's journalism adheres to the highest editorial standards. Their stories undergo rigorous fact-checking, and they provide sourcing information so that readers can independently review and verify their reporting. The Lever believes that a functioning democracy requires a vibrant, reader-supported independent media to counter corporate media propaganda. Through fearless subscriber-supported journalism, they aim to force politicians and corporations to fulfill their promises. Their track record includes contributions to major publications such as The New York Times, ProPublica, The Guardian, Jacobin, and Rolling Stone.
