## Description

Levin Riding for the Disabled (Levin RDA) is a not-for-profit organisation providing therapeutic horse-riding programmes for children and adults with physical, intellectual, emotional and social challenges. Established in 1981, it serves riders from the Kāpiti Coast, Horowhenua and Manawatū, and is one of 52 groups within the New Zealand Riding for the Disabled Association.

Tailored riding activities support each rider’s individual goals, helping develop physical and psychological abilities, communication and social skills, confidence, self-esteem and recreational opportunities. Trained volunteers work with carefully selected horses and ponies, riders and their carers to deliver structured sessions. Riding takes place on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, weather permitting, at the group’s Mako Mako Road site in Levin.

Levin RDA relies on grants and community support to maintain its programme, horses and facilities. The organisation welcomes monetary donations and good-quality hay, and invites people of all ages and backgrounds to volunteer. Volunteer roles include coaching, leading horses, supporting riders, horse care, fundraising, administration and grounds maintenance.
