## Description

The Library Telescope Program is a pioneering initiative designed to enhance scientific literacy and ignite passion for astronomy among the public. Launched by the New Hampshire Astronomical Society (NHAS) in 2008, the program allows individuals to check out telescopes from participating libraries, much like borrowing a book. This user-friendly, lightweight telescope is crafted for beginners, ensuring an exceptional first experience under the night sky.

The program has witnessed remarkable growth, currently spanning over 1,000 library outlets across the globe, including the USA, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Local amateur astronomers often serve as custodians for these telescopes, ensuring they are well-maintained and providing invaluable support to library users.

Through collaborative efforts with various astronomy organizations, the Library Telescope Program is not just about equipment but about nurturing curiosity and exploration of the cosmos. With less than 5% of libraries in the USA and Canada currently involved, there remains significant potential for expansion, making astronomy accessible to even more enthusiasts.
