## Description

LIFE Fluvial is a transnational environmental conservation project focused on improving the condition of Atlantic river corridors within the Natura 2000 network in Spain and Portugal. Supported through the European Union’s LIFE Programme, it brings together partners working across several river basins of the Iberian Peninsula to develop and apply sustainable management approaches.

The project’s work includes restoring riparian and oak forest habitats, removing invasive exotic plants and plantations, and planting native species characteristic of priority river forests. It also addresses habitat fragmentation, supports the health of river-corridor vegetation, and promotes greater connectivity and ecological function. Beyond practical restoration, LIFE Fluvial shares information through news, publications, photographs, videos, educational activities, and a traveling exhibition. It also offers opportunities for public engagement, including volunteer activities, and works to strengthen stakeholders’ training and technical capacity in river-corridor conservation.

Although the project concluded in 2022, its After-LIFE activities continue to monitor restoration outcomes and raise awareness of river ecosystems, biodiversity, and the benefits these habitats provide.
