About
Description
LIFELINE Blood Services is dedicated to providing safe blood products to the communities it serves. Established in August 1947 in Jackson, Tennessee, it began as the Jackson Medical Laboratory and Blood Bank. With the support of business partners Jack and Martha Smythe, along with Ruby Warner, the center embarked on its mission with just two employees.
Jack Smythe, a founding member of the American Association of Blood Banks, attended the organization's inaugural meeting in Dallas, Texas. Over the years, LIFELINE Blood Services has made significant advancements. The approval of a new vacuum bottle by the FDA allowed for the collection and storage of blood for transfusion, and in 1950, the center received a federal license to distribute whole blood and its components across the United States.
In the 1960s, LIFELINE acquired its first bloodmobile, and in 1972, it became a non-profit organization known as West Tennessee Regional Blood Center, operating as LIFELINE. Currently, LIFELINE Blood Services serves 21 counties in West Tennessee and two regional areas. Annually, they collect around 26,000 blood products through their bloodmobiles, meeting the needs of countless patients.
Additionally, they offer reference lab and cross-matching services to healthcare facilities. LIFELINE is a proud member of recognized blood banking associations and operates under U. S.
LIFELINE's commitment to saving lives is further supported by their valued community partners throughout West Tennessee. With a strong leadership team, including Chief Executive Officer John B. Miller, LIFELINE continues to provide essential services and make a difference in the lives of those in need.
