## Description

Lignum Medical Oy is a Finnish medical technology company developing a bio-based injectable treatment for stress urinary incontinence (SUI), a condition involving urine leakage during sudden pressure. The company applies Nordic engineering and nanocellulose research to create alternatives to treatments based on fossil-derived polymers and petrochemical silicones.

Its lead product is a patented injectable hydrogel made from nanocellulose sourced from Finnish birch. The company describes the material as biocompatible, durable, animal-free, and formed into a soft scaffold that holds water. The injection is designed for SUI treatment and is supplied with an all-in-one application device for use by clinicians in a standard cystoscopic procedure. Lignum Medical reports patent coverage in more than 12 countries.

Founded as a spinout from Aalto University in 2023, the company builds on earlier research and development, including preclinical studies and work on medical-grade nanocellulose devices. Its team brings experience in biomaterials, medical device development, healthcare, finance, and entrepreneurship. Lignum Medical welcomes inquiries from clinicians, investors, partners, and prospective team members.
