## Description

LIGO-India is a groundbreaking mega-science project dedicated to advancing research in astronomy and fundamental physics. By becoming a crucial part of the international network of gravitational wave observatories, it aims to enhance our understanding of the universe through the detection of gravitational waves—ripples in space-time produced by cosmic events such as black hole mergers and supernovae.

The project facilitates cutting-edge technology development, providing invaluable opportunities for students and researchers in India. LIGO-India will significantly improve the localization of gravitational wave sources, thanks to its strategic geographic positioning, thereby increasing detection rates and scientific confidence.

Collaboration between Indian institutions like the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, and international entities, ensures a comprehensive approach toward the project's goals. LIGO-India not only elevates India’s status in global gravity research but also fosters technological expertise and training in high-end technologies, ultimately inspiring a new generation of scientists and engineers in the field.
