Friends of the Archives of Limestone County, Alabama, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the county’s historical records. It operates as a depository and research center for original Limestone County materials and supports the Limestone County Archives in maintaining official records. The organization also collects and preserves non-official documents and other items with historical or personal research value.

Its collections include records and resources useful for local and family history research, such as old photographs, microfiche, and microfilm. These materials are available for public viewing in the Limestone County Archives Research Room, which has moved to a new location and is open to visitors.

The organization’s mission includes procuring, preserving, restoring, maintaining, studying, and promoting documents and records with statistical, legal, or historical significance to Limestone County, its government, or its residents. It also works to encourage public interest in the county’s documentary heritage. Friends of the Archives holds quarterly meetings in May, August, November, and February at 5:00 p.m. at the Archives, located in the old Athens Train Depot at 102 West Washington Street in Athens, Alabama.
