Description
The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy is a nonprofit private operating foundation that aims to improve the quality of life through effective land use, taxation, and stewardship. Established in 1946, the institute conducts research and proposes innovative approaches to address economic, social, and environmental challenges related to land. Their work encompasses various areas including low-carbon and climate-resilient communities, fair and efficient tax systems, poverty reduction, fiscally healthy communities, sustainable land and water resource management, and functional land markets.
Through education, training, publications, and events, the Lincoln Institute integrates theory and practice to inform public policy decisions globally. With a rich history starting as the Lincoln Foundation and evolving into the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, their focus has always been on multidisciplinary education, research, and publications related to property valuation, taxation policy, urban planning, development, land economics, and property rights. Their mission has expanded internationally through programs in Latin America, the Caribbean, and China.
The Lincoln Institute commemorated its 75th anniversary with a short film called Life of an Idea: The Story of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, which explores their groundbreaking solutions and looks towards the future. Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Lincoln Institute is housed in a historic colonial revival house, adjacent to the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow House
