## Description

The Lipedema Society is a U.S.-registered nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization advancing awareness, education, standards, and access to care for lipedema and related fat disorders. Founded in 2015 and strategically evolving in 2024, it brings together physicians, surgeons, allied healthcare professionals, researchers, and scientists to improve understanding, diagnosis, and treatment. Its multidisciplinary community turns available medical evidence, research, and clinical experience into public guidance and professional education.

The Society develops clinical standards and guidelines, with an emphasis on evidence-informed practice and collaboration among specialists. Its professional membership offers educational forums, expert networking, learning opportunities, and opportunities to contribute to publications, Grand Rounds, committees, and working groups. The organization is also developing future guidelines, treatment protocols, certification programs, and provider directories. Its Leadership Circle invites eligible physicians and surgeons to support and help inform initiatives in education, awareness, and advocacy.

Through partnerships and education initiatives, the Society aims to encourage earlier diagnosis, consistent high-quality care, and access to medically necessary treatment. Its long-term vision includes integrating lipedema education into medical school curricula.
