## Description

The Low Isles Preservation Society (LIPS) is a conservation and heritage organisation focused on protecting Low Isles, known to the Eastern Kuku Yalanji as Wungkun, and the marine, coastal and historic values of the surrounding reef. Located about 15 kilometres offshore from Port Douglas in the Great Barrier Reef, the island is a place of significant natural and cultural heritage. LIPS supports research, community involvement and public education through citizen science, wildlife monitoring, historical records and educational resources. Its work includes sharing the history of the 1928–29 Great Barrier Reef Expedition, the Low Isles Lighthouse and island life, as well as documenting wildlife and the reef environment. The society also supports the Low Isles Museum, whose collections and visitor experience interpret Traditional Custodians and Sea Country, lighthouse history, scientific exploration and reef biodiversity. Visitors and supporters can explore galleries, read articles, join as members, volunteer, donate or contribute artefacts and oral histories.
