## Description

Liquen Technologies develops portable, traceable calibration systems designed to make reliable measurement more practical in the field. Based in Boulder, Colorado, the company brings together scientists and engineers with more than 25 years of experience in atmospheric chemistry, analytical instrumentation, and air-quality monitoring. Its SFCal™ platform uses compact supercritical-fluid cartridges to generate controlled standards for gases and semi-volatile compounds, with particle-calibration capabilities in development.

Liquen’s system uses small CO₂ cartridges and a dynamic dilution device to produce known pollutant concentrations, including carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and volatile hazardous air pollutants such as BTEX compounds. This approach is intended to let users check and calibrate sensors on site, reducing reliance on laboratories, bulky gas cylinders, and costly infrastructure. Applications include environmental and industrial monitoring, field research, education, and public-health programs. The company’s Phase I SBIR research, funded by the NIEHS, established the technology’s feasibility. Liquen also welcomes partners for field validation, product development, and emerging applications, including PFAS destruction verification.
