## Description

The Living River Association is a Thailand-based organisation founded on 14 March 1999 to support local communities in protecting and sustainably managing their rivers. Working with community networks across the Mekong and Salween basins, it focuses on river ecosystems, community rights, traditional livelihoods and food security. Its approach recognises local knowledge as essential to balanced river management and informed decision-making.

The association supports community-led research, in which residents collect and interpret information about their own watersheds. It also works with communities to establish fish conservation areas and locally agreed rules for water use, strengthen local networks, and monitor the cross-border impacts of large dams and water diversion projects. These efforts help communities contribute to policy discussions and defend their rights.

For the public, the association provides research, books, documentaries, articles and watershed data through its publications and online archives. Its collection includes 931 documents and articles, full community research reports, and records covering 12 river basins and tributaries.
