Social LMxAC is a nonprofit membership organization that provides a wide range of services to its member libraries. Established in 1986, it currently consists of 36 public libraries in Middlesex, Monmouth, and Union counties and Middlesex College. The primary objective of LMxAC is to operate a shared automation system for its members and promote cooperative automated projects and resource sharing.

This ensures that residents within their service area receive a higher quality of library services. LMxAC offers complete online library automation services to its member libraries, including retrospective conversion of library catalog records, circulation control, and an online public access catalog. They also facilitate connections with other library catalogs across the United States and provide access to numerous commercial online research databases.

In addition to technological expertise, LMxAC supports value-added services such as collection development, continuing education for staff and trustees, marketing, consulting, and state and national library advocacy. Their member libraries actively participate in consortium decision making, ensuring representation from all types of libraries and geographic areas.
