## Description

LOFAR ERIC, officially established by the European Commission on December 20, 2023, is leading the governance and operational responsibilities for the LOFAR (Low Frequency Array) Distributed Research Infrastructure. This cutting-edge radio telescope operates at low radio frequencies, ranging from 10 to 240 MHz, and features a network of 52 antenna stations across eight European countries, with plans for additional stations in Italy and Bulgaria.

LOFAR is renowned for its exceptional sensitivity and angular resolution, making it the world's most powerful telescope in its frequency range. Its diverse scientific applications include cosmological studies, pulsar research, and investigations of cosmic rays and solar activities. LOFAR ERIC aims to support the European research community by facilitating access to unique data products and promoting international collaboration. By enhancing the capabilities of LOFAR through the LOFAR2.0 upgrade, LOFAR ERIC is positioned to maintain Europe’s leadership in radio astronomy and contribute significantly to global projects like the Square Kilometre Array (SKA).
