## Description

The Long-Term Care Ombudsman is a resident-focused advocacy program serving people who live in long-term care facilities in Northeast Indiana. Authorized under the federal Older Americans Act, the program helps investigate and resolve concerns raised by residents or on their behalf. Its services are free and confidential, and apply to residents of nursing homes, assisted living communities, and board and care facilities.

The organization works across nine counties, connecting trained volunteer ombudsmen with facilities and supporting more than 9,500 residents at 106 facilities. Its mission is to protect residents’ rights and well-being by offering support, addressing concerns, and helping people access quality care and services. Advocacy includes promoting freedom from abuse and the right to raise grievances without fear of retaliation. The program also empowers residents and family members to speak up for themselves or a loved one.
