The Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs proudly presents the Mekong-U. S. Partnership, a multinational initiative aimed at fostering stability, peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in the Mekong sub-region.

Comprising Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, Viet Nam, and the United States, this partnership builds upon 11 years of successful collaboration through the Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI). The Mekong-U. S.

Partnership focuses on various areas to enhance the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in the region. By improving governance, infrastructure, health security, education, and women’s entrepreneurship, it drives positive change and promotes economic connectivity. The Partnership also addresses transboundary challenges through enhanced natural resources management, non-traditional security, and energy and infrastructure cooperation.

Furthermore, the Mekong-U. S. Partnership aims to strengthen regional connectivity by fostering connections between institutions, public and private sectors, and people within the Mekong Region and the United States.

By implementing capacity-building activities, engaging in policy dialogues, and exchanging expertise, the Partnership seeks to achieve transparency, good governance, and sustainable development. Aligned with the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and U. S.

Indo-Pacific vision, the Mekong-U. S. Partnership embodies principles of equality, sustainable development, and economic growth.

It collaborates with ACMECS, ASEAN, and other Mekong development partners to create a comprehensive approach. Together, we strive to overcome emerging challenges and support key regional solutions, further strengthening the bond between the United States and the Mekong partner countries
