About
Description
Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (LRAPA) is the leading air quality authority for Lane County, Oregon. Established in 1968, LRAPA is responsible for monitoring and maintaining clean air in the county's metro area. Supported by member entities such as Lane County, Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove, and Oakridge, LRAPA plays an active role in community development and planning.
LRAPA's dedicated staff of 19 works diligently to ensure that Lane County meets federal National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) set by the Clean Air Act. They achieve this by monitoring ambient air, issuing home wood heating advisories, regulating outdoor burning, responding to air quality complaints, and issuing operational air permits to industrial and commercial businesses. LRAPA is also responsible for implementing Cleaner Air Oregon, the state's Air Toxics program.
LRAPA takes pride in its increased monitoring services, with eight government-grade monitoring sites and over 90 commercial-grade Particulate Matter sensors installed throughout the county. This extensive network allows for better public access to air quality information. Additionally, LRAPA distinguishes itself as the only local clean air agency in Oregon, providing more opportunities for community voices to be recognized and influence decisions regarding Lane County's air.
For those concerned about air quality, LRAPA offers a range of resources and services. This includes information on current air quality, regulations and permits for burning wood and debris, permitting guidelines for commercial and industrial operations, facts about asbestos and its health risks, and updates on public comment periods and meetings. LRAPA's mission is to protect public health, community well-being, and the environment by championing the improvement and maintenance of air quality in Lane County.
With a commitment to transparency and public engagement, LRAPA ensures that the voices of the community are heard and respected
