## Description

Biel-Kappelen Airfield is a Swiss aviation centre operated by Flugplatz Genossenschaft Biel & Umgebung. Opened in 1967 as a replacement for Biel’s former airfield, it has developed into a base for recreational flying, pilot training, parachuting and other aviation activities. Its facilities include a grass runway, hangars and services for visiting pilots, who must obtain prior permission before landing. The airfield also provides operational information, webcams and guidance on customs procedures for eligible cross-border flights.

The Seeland Flying Group operates three aircraft at Biel-Kappelen and offers scenic flights, aircraft rental and private pilot training. Swissboogie runs a parachuting school for experienced jumpers and tandem passengers, with jumps from heights of 4,000 to 7,600 metres. Visitors can also book aerobatic flights through Take-Off Aerobatics and balloon rides through Take-Off Balloon AG. During summer, the airfield hosts SPHAIR preparation courses for aspiring military parachute reconnaissance personnel. A children’s playground and an aviation-themed restaurant with a garden terrace and beer garden make the site welcoming to visitors beyond the flying community.
