## Description

Lunuganga is a historic garden estate in Bentota, Sri Lanka, created by architect Geoffrey Bawa. Acquired in 1948 from a former rubber and cinnamon plantation, the land was transformed into a distinctive landscape of walkways, quiet places for reflection, and largely endemic plants and wildlife. Known as Bawa’s “garden within a larger garden,” Lunuganga invites visitors to explore his evolving vision and the relationship between architecture, nature, and the surrounding lakes.

The Geoffrey Bawa Trust offers daily guided garden tours, with specialist curatorial tours and private guided visits available by advance appointment. The estate also provides accommodation and dining. Its open-plan, lake-view restaurant serves Sri Lankan favourites such as hoppers, kiribath, and rice and curry, alongside international and contemporary Asian fusion dishes. Meals feature local ingredients, including produce from the kitchen garden, and the team can cater to dietary requirements; a children’s menu is available. Outside diners may visit by advance booking as part of a garden tour.
