About

Description

Luton Sankofa UK is a non-profit African-Caribbean group based in Luton, established in 2016. Our main purpose is to organize the annual commemoration of the Transatlantic African Enslavement, in accordance with the United Nations' designated date of 25th March, to honor and remember the victims of this tragic period in history. We firmly believe in the importance of raising awareness about the Transatlantic African Enslavement.

By doing so, we not only acknowledge and honor the memory of the heroes and heroines who were enslaved for nearly 500 years, but we also strive to bridge the historical gap between African and Caribbean communities, encouraging unity and understanding. Our aim is for the local black community to come together and commemorate the billions of victims of this African Holocaust. This event also serves as an opportunity to educate and re-contextualize our history, both pre and post enslavement, in order to provide a more accurate historical narrative.

Luton Sankofa UK is managed by ACCDF through a dedicated Management Committee, and we are committed to fostering unity, remembrance, and education within our community
