## Description

XTension is a Macintosh home automation platform that has been helping users manage connected homes since 1996. Designed for people who want more than basic phone-based controls, it brings devices and protocols together so they can work as part of a customized system. XTension supports a broad range of technologies, including X10, Z-Wave, Zigbee, UPB, wireless sensors, and maker-focused hardware such as Arduino and mySensors devices. Users can create automation logic with AppleScript, linking equipment across systems and tailoring actions to their household’s routines.

The software is built to favor local connections where possible, allowing automations to continue without internet access and reducing reliance on cloud services. It also offers customizable web interfaces for desktop and mobile control, with SSL support for remote access. Related products and services include XTdb for database functions, motion reports, and graphing, as well as plugins, setup resources, technical documentation, tutorials, and troubleshooting support. XTension can be explored in a functional demo with a 10-unit database limit and no time restriction.
