Macrostrat is an innovative platform designed for geological data exploration, integration, and analysis. It boasts the world’s largest homogenized geologic map database, featuring over 225 maps contributed by global data providers. With extensive resources including 1,400 regional rock columns, 33,903 rock units, and 2.5 million geologic map polygons, Macrostrat serves as a crucial tool for researchers, educators, and geologists. 

By connecting geologic map polygons with stratigraphic names and geochronological intervals, Macrostrat enhances original map data, allowing for comprehensive geological studies and collaboration with state and national geologic surveys. The platform also supports interactive applications tailored for educational and research purposes while offering a freely accessible API that facilitates data retrieval for further analysis.

Funded primarily by the U.S. National Science Foundation, Macrostrat encourages ongoing contributions to maintain and expand its resources, promoting a vibrant community resource for the study of sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks and their economic significance.
