## Description

Maddi’s Bag is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in response to the recovery of Maddi, who sustained a traumatic brain injury and multiple broken bones in a serious accident in 2014. Inspired by the activities and community support that helped her through a difficult recovery, the organization works to comfort children facing traumatic injuries and to support their families. Its mission is to provide age- and injury-appropriate activities and necessities that ease stress, encourage communication, and help families reconnect during a hospital stay. Maddi’s Bag currently supports the Child Life Fund on the trauma unit at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where its comfort-bag program provides each admitted child with useful items and activities. Additional funds support children and families throughout their hospital stays. The organization raises money through Shop4CHOP, an annual shopping event featuring boutiques and local businesses, and welcomes sponsors, donations, community fundraisers, and donation drives. It also promotes traumatic brain injury awareness and education about brain-healthy lifestyles, while recognizing the vital work of doctors, nurses, and therapists caring for young patients.
