## Description

Madoche Jean Louis, Ph.D., is a Haitian-born coastal scientist and water resources engineer whose work focuses on understanding and reducing flood risk. His research examines how storm surge, rainfall, and river floods interact across coastal landscapes, and how these hazards affect salinity, sediment, and water quality. Combining process-based models, field observations, remote sensing, and physics-guided machine learning, he develops approaches to improve flood prediction and support climate adaptation.

Jean Louis is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Alabama and a water resources engineer and coastal scientist at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory. His work also explores nature-based solutions, including the role of seasonal vegetation in marshes and living shorelines, as well as river delta processes and water transport. He teaches hydraulics and coastal engineering at the State University of Haiti, where he founded the Laboratory of Hydraulics and Hydroinformatics. Through research, teaching, mentoring, and the Haitian Emerging Scholars Alliance, he supports scientific collaboration and capacity-building, particularly for vulnerable coastal regions.
