MahoganyBooks is an unapologetically Black-owned, family-run and operated bookstore that is committed to promoting reading, writing, and cultural awareness. With their roots dating back to 2007, MahoganyBooks started as an online platform to cater to readers nationwide who wanted books about the African Diaspora. Over the years, they have grown into a prominent independent bookstore, opening their first physical location in Washington, DC in 2017 and a second location in National Harbor, MD in 2021.

Founders Derrick and Ramunda Young's passion for culture, community, and connection drove them to create MahoganyBooks, which has become a symbol of empowerment through literature. With over 20 years of combined retail book industry experience, they have developed an innovative bookstore model that combines technology with traditional community values. MahoganyBooks takes pride in hosting over 600 book events, both in-person and online, featuring a diverse range of authors.

Their extensive inventory of Black books has made them a go-to destination for readers seeking new voices and established luminaries. They have been recognized for their contributions to the community and were named one of the Top 100 Minority Business Enterprises in the DC Capital Region. MahoganyBooks has received national attention, appearing in various media outlets such as Forbes, Oprah Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal.

With two physical locations and an online store, MahoganyBooks offers a wide range of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, children's literature, and books on art, music, history, and more. They also provide services such as author talks, seminars, and workshops, and actively engage in philanthropy by donating books to youth and organizing events to enrich the lives of residents.
