## Description

Māhutonga is the Whānau Ora commissioning agency for Region 2, supporting whānau to lead their own journeys of wellbeing. Guided by whakapapa and a commitment to locally led solutions, it invests in community-driven initiatives that reflect Māori aspirations, mātauranga and mana motuhake. Its work places whānau at the heart of Whānau Ora and aims to create lasting impact by strengthening whānau capability.

Region 2 encompasses six sub-regions: Te Ūpoko o Te Ika, Heretaunga, Tairāwhiti, Whanganui-Manawatu, Taranaki and Waiariki. Across these communities, Māhutonga works alongside providers, partners, champions and navigators to support initiatives shaped by local priorities. Rather than presenting a one-size-fits-all service, the agency focuses on enabling whānau-led approaches and helping communities build on their own knowledge, strengths and aspirations.

Māhutonga’s commissioning role includes investing funding for impact and supporting trusted providers to deliver community-based solutions. Its website also offers information about the agency, its providers, insights, governance and pānui, alongside contact details for enquiries.
