## Description

Maine Humane is a statewide organization that supports animal welfare groups throughout Maine, connecting organizations across all 16 counties to strengthen care for animals and the people who serve them. Its network includes volunteer-run rescues, municipal animal control agencies, and shelters. By coordinating efforts and sharing resources, Maine Humane helps organizations address challenges together.

The organization works on policy and advocacy, monitors legislation, supports animal welfare laws, and coordinates with Maine’s Animal Welfare Program on statewide responses and large-scale animal seizures. It also provides education and outreach through its annual HuMaine Conference, newsletter, and public engagement. Its resources connect organizations with funding opportunities, training, and practical tools, while helping the public find spay and neuter services, pet food assistance, and financial help.

Maine Humane also supports community solutions, including collaborative efforts to address community cat overpopulation and its Cat Tracker tool. Additional programs include a pet food pantry, cruelty response, and outreach and engagement.
