## Description

The International Appalachian Trail (IAT) is a visionary hiking trail concept that began in 1994, conceived by Dick Anderson and dedicated conservationists in Maine. Spanning from Katahdin in Maine to Mont Carleton in New Brunswick and Mount Jacques Cartier in Quebec, the trail showcases the stunning beauty of the northern Appalachian Mountains. Its mission extends beyond borders, fostering collaboration between Maine and Canada to preserve the environment and connect diverse cultures.

The IAT now stretches across 23 chapters on three continents, including Greenland, Iceland, and extending to Europe and North Africa, making it a global hiking destination. The trail provides an immersive experience through varying landscapes, from serene rivers to lush spruce and fir forests, appealing to hikers of all levels. The Maine Chapter actively engages with local communities, landowners, and conservation organizations to enhance the trail experience and promote sustainable practices. With a commitment to community involvement, the IAT invites donations and participation from those who share a passion for nature and exploration.
