## Description

Friends of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is an independent nonprofit organization founded in 1999 to promote conservation and appreciation of the refuge’s natural and cultural resources. Through education, outreach, advocacy, and hands-on stewardship, it supports the protection and restoration of this renowned wildlife habitat in Oregon.

The organization works with volunteers and partners on projects and programs that benefit the refuge, and hosts events and community activities, including educational walks. It shares information about wildlife, seasons, birding locations, refuge history, and visitor planning to help people explore and understand Malheur. Its website also features wildlife checklists, sightings, photography, newsletters, and updates on conservation work.

People can support the Friends by joining, volunteering, donating, participating in planned giving, or sponsoring memberships and events. The organization also offers a Business Alliance and the Sandhill Crane Society, and operates the Crane’s Nest Nature Center & Store. Donations help fund projects and programs across the refuge. Friends of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
