## Description

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is India’s National Standards Body. It develops and promotes standards and provides services that support product quality, safety, and conformity across industries. Its work includes standardization, conformity assessment, and certification, helping businesses and consumers understand whether products and management systems meet applicable requirements.

BIS offers several schemes and services, including the Compulsory Registration Scheme, Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS), Management System Certification, laboratory services, and hallmarking. It also provides online resources through Manakonline, a standards promotion portal, and a GIS service. Training and human resource management are among its other functions.

For jewellers seeking registration, BIS directs applicants to use the National Single Window System portal. The organization also shares guidance for new applicants, licensing procedures, and sample handling, alongside updates on standards, regulatory implementation, webinars, and other events. BIS supports public engagement through its weekly Jan Sunvai session, where people can raise queries or grievances and offer suggestions or feedback directly to officials.
