## Description

Marathon Fusion is a nuclear fusion technology company founded in 2023. It began by developing tritium fuel systems for commercial-scale fusion and now describes its mission as building a full stack of technologies to support commercial fusion power. Its work spans beam-driven fusion, fusion fuel cycles, fusion-grade materials, radiopharmaceuticals, and isotope production.

Its ion-beam systems accelerate deuterium ions for fusion targets and reactor heating. The company also develops solid lithium-tritide targets, lithium-6 enrichment using a plasma centrifuge, and processes to separate, purify, compress, and recycle fusion fuel. Its proposed blanket technology is designed to breed tritium and co-produce electricity and stable gold.

Marathon also uses neutron irradiation to produce isotopes, including actinium-225 from radium-226, an ingredient in cancer drugs. It tests candidate structural materials under neutron exposure to assess their performance in conditions representative of fusion power plants. Based in San Francisco, the company presents these technologies as pathways to accelerate fusion deployment and improve plant economics.
