## Description

The Marple Local History Society, established in 1961 and originally known as The Marple Antiquarian Society, is a registered charity dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich historical tapestry of Marple and its surrounding areas, including Mellor, Compstall, Marple Bridge, Strines, Rose Hill, Hawk Green, and High Lane. With a robust program of monthly meetings from September to April, the Society features speakers who explore both local and broader historical topics.

Members enjoy various activities, including field trips that enhance their understanding of the region's heritage. The Society boasts an extensive archive of artifacts and documents, generously contributed by local residents and descendants worldwide, all housed at the Mellor Parish Centre. In addition to archiving, the Society publishes a range of books on local history and organizes exhibitions to engage the community. Whether you're a history enthusiast or just curious, the Marple Local History Society offers invaluable insights into the local heritage and is committed to sharing stories from the past.
