## Description

Matsuri Karate Academy is a karate school in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, with a further dojo in Welwyn. It teaches Shorin-ryu Ryukyukan Karate and Kobudo, drawing on traditional Okinawan practice and instruction passed to federation members through Hanshi Nohara, 10th Dan. The academy’s approach combines historical techniques with modern teaching methods, and welcomes beginners as well as experienced students.

Training covers kihon waza, the basic striking and blocking techniques; kata, traditional patterns from the Shuri-te lineage; and kumite, where students practise applying their skills with a partner. Kobudo classes focus on the traditional weapons of the Ryukyu Islands. The school says this practice develops body positioning, power, conditioning, focus and awareness. Students work towards belt gradings through achievable short-term goals, progressing towards black belt.

The academy emphasizes self-protection, discipline, etiquette and mutual respect. Its instructors are registered with the Okinawa Shorinryu Ryukyukan Karate and Kobudo Federation, and are insured, first-aid trained and DBS checked. New students can try a first lesson free and receive a free karate uniform when they enrol.
