About

Description

MCTV is a nonprofit organization that serves as a PEG media center, providing Public, Education, and Government programming to the community. As one of approximately 2,000 media centers across the country, MCTV operates under the guidance of a board of directors and is funded partly through cable franchise agreements with the City of Millbrae. MCTV manages local channel 27 for the City of Millbrae and also offers government channel management and production services to the cities of San Mateo and Brisbane, as well as the SFO Community Roundtable.

Their mission is to be a bridge of encouragement, fostering civic engagement and providing a platform for residents, businesses, and grassroots organizations to share their voice and vision. The organization aims to document and preserve the evolving local history with a focus on diversity, transparency, and inclusion. Their vision is to expand their team and provide low-cost or free media services to all local organizations and groups, promoting public participation and civic engagement.

MCTV produces a variety of content, including live streaming of events, documentaries, and videos highlighting the growth and milestones of the community. They have a rich history of supporting and collaborating with local organizations, such as the Millbrae Chamber of Commerce, Millbrae Cultural Committee, and various service clubs. Since its establishment in 1984, MCTV has grown and adapted to the changing technological landscape.

They were one of the first community stations in the region to adopt PEG and have consistently embraced new platforms and technologies, including live streaming and mobile accessibility. In recent years, MCTV has expanded its facilities and services, including the opening of the North Peninsula Community Media Center in 2015. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, MCTV has continued to serve the community by providing remote teleconference services, streaming virtual events, and keeping residents informed about important news and milestones.

While studio access is currently limited due to COVID protocols, MCTV welcomes volunteers and content producers who are interested in contributing to their original productions. By contacting MCTV, individuals can join the team in telling the stories that matter to the community. Overall, MCTV is dedicated to strengthening local media, promoting community engagement, and highlighting the diverse voices and visions of the Millbrae community
