## Description

The Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Zealand Inc. (MDANZ) is a registered charity supporting people across Aotearoa New Zealand who live with neuromuscular conditions, along with their families and whānau. Its work promotes choice, independence and dignity through practical assistance, information, advocacy and community connection.

MDANZ provides personalised emotional and practical support, including mobile fieldworker visits at home, school or work. Fieldworkers help coordinate support, address everyday challenges and explore equipment solutions. The association also offers counselling and wellbeing services, resources and fact sheets, alert cards, funding assistance and guidance for people who are newly diagnosed. Its information covers more than 70 neuromuscular conditions.

Members and families can connect through peer-led groups, regional gatherings, youth camps, events and In Touch magazine. MDANZ also supports research through funding, a national neuromuscular disease registry and biobank, and updates on clinical trials and new treatments. The organisation advocates for healthcare equity and improved access to medicines. Donations, membership and other involvement help sustain its services and research efforts throughout New Zealand.
