## Description

MEC, Inc.’s lightning information service, presented by 気象工学研究所, provides a map-based view of observed lightning activity. The service displays recent lightning reports in three time categories: within the past 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 30 minutes, helping users see where strikes have been recorded. The map uses Geospatial Information Authority of Japan tiles and is intended as a reference source rather than a definitive safety or forecasting tool. MEC notes that updates may be delayed because of system constraints, and lightning may continue after a report appears. To avoid repeated posts for the same municipality, reports are spaced at least three hours apart. The service does not provide responses to inquiries about precise strike locations or historical lightning records, and availability may be interrupted without notice for maintenance. Users may not transfer or re-rent the information to third parties. The site also uses Google Analytics cookies to collect anonymous traffic data for service improvement; the data does not identify individuals.
