## Description

Mediamaps is an interdisciplinary research group at HEIG-VD, bringing together expertise from its institutes of media engineering, territorial engineering, and information and communication technologies. The group explores how geographic information can be collected, represented, shared, and used through digital media. Its work spans participatory and citizen mapping, cartographic visualization, geospatial application development for desktop, web, and mobile, augmented reality, participatory science, and interoperable data standards.

Mediamaps contributes to the development of geoinformation standards nationally and internationally, while collaborating with academic, public, and industry partners. Its projects include Baremaps, an open-source pipeline for publishing customizable vector tiles; Biosentiers, a mobile augmented-reality experience for exploring biodiversity; and Smapshot, a participatory platform for discovering historical landscapes through photographic collections. Other initiatives support urban biodiversity research, accessible pedestrian planning, public participation, spatial data learning, and the use of aerial or satellite imagery. Through research, prototypes, expertise, workshops, and teaching activities, Mediamaps develops practical ways to make geographic information more useful, accessible, and engaging.
