Melanesian Women Today is an Indigenous International Non-Profit organization that aims to empower women and girls in the Melanesian region of the South Pacific. They work towards developing these women and girls into leaders and conscious change agents in the areas of education, health, and entrepreneurship.

The programs offered by Melanesian Women Today are designed and contextualized from a Melanesian approach, ensuring that they are innovative, sustainable, and impactful at the systemic and root levels of social and cultural issues. The organization recognizes the crucial role of women in Melanesian societies as protectors, practitioners, and nurturers of Melanesian cultures.

Despite the progress made, women in Melanesia still face gender disparities on multiple levels. They are often excluded from decision-making processes, training opportunities, and economic and political advancements. Melanesian Women Today envisions a Pacific region where every woman, girl, and child leads a productive, healthy, and fulfilling life.

The organization operates on three core values: empowering women and girls as key change agents, activating self-reliance within communities, and forging effective partnerships with local governments and community leaders.

Melanesian Women Today's approach encompasses various projects that focus on education, health, and entrepreneurship. These include initiatives such as literacy programs, STEM education, improving rural healthcare quality, preventative care for women and children, HIV and AIDS awareness, climate change advocacy, and empowering women through social entrepreneurship.

The organization primarily works in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, and Fiji, aiming to make a lasting impact on the lives of women, girls, and families in these communities.

Leading the organization with a vision and drive is Dr. Mere Motari-Muramura Sovick, the Founder and Executive Director of Melanesian Women Today. She is the first indigenous Ni-Vanuatu woman to earn a doctorate in the United States and has a wealth of experience in academia and community work. Dr. Sovick's leadership has been crucial in registering MWT in the US and in Vanuatu, expanding the reach of their programs and initiatives.

Through their dedication to empowering women and girls, Melanesian Women Today strives to create a safe environment where every woman and girl has the opportunity to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact in their community.
