Mellon Educate is a well-established brand with a mission to transform the lives of thousands of people in South African Townships. Since its inception in 2002, Mellon Educate has focused on bringing literacy to children across Africa while providing employment opportunities for local school leavers. One of their flagship initiatives is the annual building blitz trip, where volunteers from around the world travel to Africa to help build better school infrastructure in impoverished communities.

In addition to infrastructure improvement, Mellon Educate launched the Mellon Educate Literacy Programme in 2018, addressing the high numbers of children struggling with reading. The programme offers one-on-one tutoring in literacy hubs and community-based libraries, creating rich learning environments. So far, Mellon Educate has built or renovated 36 schools and improved education for 50,000 children.

Their goal is to expand the literacy program to reach hundreds of thousands of primary school children throughout Southern Africa.
