## Description

IHMEC, the Institute for the History and Memory of Disasters, is an organization dedicated to building a collective memory of disasters and helping communities prepare for and recover from them. With support from France’s Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, it provides a platform for sharing experiences and connecting individual stories to a broader understanding of disasters.

Its website features an interactive map that helps visitors explore disasters and contribute testimony about events they or people close to them have experienced. Participants can share written accounts, photographs, videos and drawings. A separate section invites imagined disaster stories, reflecting the fears and possibilities shaped by family memories and concerns about the future. IHMEC also publishes news, articles and other resources, and offers information about resilience and the site’s activities.

The organization presents resilience as a process that includes preparation, withstanding a disaster, rebuilding and addressing its physical and psychological effects.
