## Description

Mendicity is a Dublin-based charity whose history dates to 1818, making it the city’s oldest working charity. Its mission is to disrupt and prevent homelessness by helping people experiencing homelessness, isolation and marginalisation build self-sufficiency and participate in their communities. The organisation provides practical support and opportunities for people to work towards better, more stable lives.

Its services include food, a daytime shelter with Wi-Fi and phone-charging facilities, showers, clean clothes, toiletries and laundry access. Mendicity also connects people with primary healthcare and offers advocacy, assistance and support accessing other services. Its approach is inclusive and focused on providing quality services to everyone who comes for help.

Alongside its frontline work, Mendicity runs a social enterprise that creates opportunities through workshops and handmade crafts. Its Hard Ground coffee truck serves hot and cold drinks at Christ Church Cathedral grounds. The charity also welcomes volunteers, recruits staff and invites donations to support its work. Mendicity is based at 9 Island Street, Dublin 8.
