## Description

Meqoamia Community Development Organization (MCDO) is a community-focused organization working to advance public health and strengthen local capacity in Ethiopia. Its initiatives address substance use disorders, addiction prevention, mental health, tobacco control, and the prevention of noncommunicable diseases. MCDO promotes drug-demand reduction, relapse prevention, recovery and rehabilitation, while supporting advocacy to protect communities from tobacco use and secondhand smoke. Its work includes participation in Addis Ababa smoke-free initiatives and national tobacco-control coordination, as well as engagement with the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) and its Ethiopia National Chapter.

MCDO also contributes to public education, workforce development, and evidence-based approaches to substance use and mental health. Activities highlighted by the organization include capacity-building in digital advocacy and strategic leadership, tobacco-control data initiatives, and efforts to strengthen youth resilience and multisectoral partnerships for crime prevention. Through events, training, advocacy, and collaboration with local and international partners, MCDO aims to build professional capacity and support healthier, more resilient communities.
