## Description

Gerhard Mester is a German cartoonist whose work uses humor to explore serious, complex and sometimes absurd subjects. Drawing on nearly four decades of experience, he creates caricatures and topic-based illustrations that distill an issue, offer a perspective and invite viewers to see familiar debates differently. His work has addressed social, political, religious and environmental themes, with subjects including workplace safety, democracy and the German constitution, climate change, solar energy, heat pumps and insulation. After many years illustrating current political events, Mester has shifted his focus to topics that allow for more sustained research and reflection. The website also features an archive and books related to his work. In addition to his illustrations, he occasionally gives talks and illustrated presentations about the purpose and meaning of caricature, democracy, religion and broader questions of public life. Based in Wiesbaden, Mester presents his work as a thoughtful, humorous way to engage with issues that can otherwise seem difficult or serious.
