## Description

Metta Institute, established in 2004, is dedicated to providing education on spirituality in dying. Inspired by the Buddhist tradition, they emphasize the integration of spiritual dimensions in living, dying, and transformation through professional training, educational programs, and materials. As an outgrowth of the Zen Hospice Project (ZHP), nationally recognized for its pioneering work in end-of-life care, Metta Institute's primary program is the End-of-Life Practitioner Program. This innovative training aims to establish a nationwide network of educators, advocates, and guides for those facing life-threatening illnesses and the individuals and systems that serve them. The name Metta comes from an ancient Pali (Buddhist) term meaning loving-kindness, friendliness, benevolence, and non-violence. This reflects their belief that these qualities are essential in the lives of those who are dying and their caregivers. With leading faculty members who are re-visioning the concept of dying in America, Metta Institute advocates for reclaiming the soul in caregiving and restoring a transformative relationship with dying. Visit their website for information on workshops, presentations, retreats, and educational programs. They also offer published articles, expert resources for media, audio series, recommended reading, and up-to-date links to hospice resources, Buddhist practice, grief and loss support, and end-of-life-related issues. By supporting Metta Institute, you contribute to their efforts to improve care for the dying in America.
