## Description

The Manitoba Historical Society (MHS) is Canada's second-oldest historical organization, established in 1879 with a mission to safeguard and promote the province's rich heritage. As a registered public charity, MHS operates independently of the Manitoba government, focusing on education, preservation, and advocacy for historical awareness. Open to all, membership offers individuals opportunities to participate in community engagement and contribute to heritage initiatives.

MHS offers a diverse range of programs, including field trips, lectures, and multicultural events that celebrate Manitoba's history. Their award programs honor longstanding farms, businesses, and organizations that have thrived for over a century. Additionally, MHS maintains extensive collections that form the foundation of esteemed local archives, libraries, and museums.

Dedicated to reconciliation, MHS actively supports Indigenous histories and cultures, fostering dialogue and collaboration with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. Through their publication, "Prairie History," and numerous online resources, the MHS invites all to join in preserving the past for future generations.
