# Miacis - **Website:** - **Primary alias:** `miacis.org` ## Description Associação Miacis – Protecção e Integração Animal is a Portuguese animal-protection association founded in July 2013 by a group of people with extensive experience in animal activism. Based mainly in the Greater Porto area, it works to protect animals at risk through practical support, public education and community partnerships. A central part of Miacis’s work is its CED programme—capture, sterilise and return—which helps manage groups of free-roaming cats and dogs through sterilisation, treatment and ongoing monitoring. The association also supports people in financial need with the sterilisation, care and wellbeing of their companion animals and community animals they protect. For friendly animals, Miacis assists with and promotes adoption, encouraging people to adopt rather than buy. Its educational and outreach activities raise awareness of animal welfare and responsible care, including the importance of sterilisation. The association invites the public to contribute through donations, sponsorship, membership, volunteering and foster care.
